Watson's House of Love for Youth works in close partnership with Derrick Lewis, a former inmate at the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility. We have been working diligently on a project named "Mute the Violence DC", focused on bringing awareness to gun violence to not only youth, but all individuals in the Metropolitan area. Our mission is to bring an end to interpersonal violence within groups of people, and find alternative solutions to come to a common ground.

MEET DERRICK LEWIS

CEO AND FOUNDER

Derrick Lewis, a native Washingtonian with a storied past. I grew up in an environment surrounded by violence which led me to serving 23 and a half years in prison. In the last three years of my incarceration we really began to focus on making an impact on my community upon my return. I am one of the founders of Mute the Violence DC and our primary focus is to provide preventative practices and ideologies to our communities. My experience with nonprofit organizations following my release was extremely beneficial and gave me an opportunity to understand what it takes to support our youth and what more needs to be done.
